The Decklist Out: Plasma Freeze makeover!

The undisputed BDIF is in da house.
Hello everyone!

Plasma Freeze is officially released and as I said in one of my past Underground articles, I have been testing the new metagame for a few months already, because in the end it is the only format that really matters to me! (i.e. National Championships and Worlds Championships are played with this format). Anyways, as always, I decided to update The Decklist Out before the tournaments begin with Plasma Freeze decks begin, so be sure to check the lists out while playtesting. I think I have NEVER updated The Decklist Out as much as today and the lists are better than ever as well due to my extensive testing.

The hottest decks now! – section naturally had a makeover thanks to Team Plasma getting the spot of the BDIF in the current format. Weavile/Exeggcute list was added to the metagame decks section and all the old decks saw great changes in their list, because they have to adjust to the new king of the format. Also, as requested last time around, Plasma Klinklang finally got its place among the metagame lists and I’m also quite happy with the list I was able to develop while play testing and watching Klinklang in the tournaments.

As always, feel free to comment on the lists and decks that can be found from The Decklist Out. I triple-checked every list, so the card amounts should be perfectly accurate this time around. If you have suggestions or comments about new decks that should make it to the list, let me know and feel free to disagree with The hottest decks now! - section as well.

Now, to the lists!

1 Metagame decks

In the metagame decks section you can found every deck that is considered as metagame, which I’ve written about. Metagame means decks that are widely known and played and have done fairly well at the tournaments. The metagame decks section has 2 sections:

- The hottest decks now! has the lists of the decks that are considered as the best decks in the current format.

- Metagame decks section has the lists of the rest of the decks that are currently considered as metagame and are viable for tournaments.

1.1. The hottest decks now!

The hottest decks now section covers the decks that are the most played currently and have succeeded the best in the current format. 2. why 4 electrodes and 2 voltorbs?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Anonymous: Great question! I explained it in one of my past entries and the reason is simple. You need a lots of Pokémon to the deck in order to be able to discard them with Weavile, but at the same time you want them to be useful at the same time. With 4 Electrodes you have extra Electrode to discard with Weavile and at the same time you guarantee a T2 Electrode, which is huge. Also, the line isn't 4-2, because starting with Voltorb isn't something to wish for. Although there really isn't any good starters in the deck, the 60HP and double weakness to Landorus EX is questionable.

  5. In the meta game section the darkrai deck (1.2.2) has 61 cards (40+12+9) - I counted and I think theres only 39 trainers

  6. Why Landorus/Mewtwo dissapeared from the hottest deck? Is no longer a tier 1?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, I think so. It's tier 1,5 at best. It has a very difficult Plasma match-up in its current form (with or without Garbodor) and Blastoise match-up is also very difficult thanks to Black Kyurem EX. I don't think Landorus EX will disappear completely, but it will decrease dramatically once the Battle Roads start going.

  14. You're missing out on a big deck that keeps kicking my ass: Accelgor/Mew EX/Gothitelle/Dusknoir/Musharna. While I think Musharna is a little much, this combo is tearing up every deck I throw at it. Gothitelle shuts me down 100%, and Float Stone lets them do whatever they want.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Decklist? curious about this

      Delete
    2. Accelgor/Mew EX/Gothitelle/Dusknoir has several problems. Set up of 2 Stage 2's and a Stage 1 is very difficult in the current game. Garbodor, of course, shuts it down completely, so target the Trubbish as soon as you see them. The theory behind including Musharna is to get your whole deck down to just 2 cards - Mew EX and DCE. Musharna gets 1 of them, you draw the other. Lay down Mew and DCE, retreat Gothitelle with Float Stone, put Mew active, use Dusknoir to move damage off their active, attack by copying Accelgor's Deck and Cover, put Gothitelle active, repeat. If you ever get it set up like this, it's hilarious!

      Delete
    3. Garbodor is actually one of the deck's best matchups. Run 1 Tool Scrapper, and once you scrap the tools, they can't get any more because of item lock.

  17. How would be a Metagame Tornadus EX(Plasma freeze) deck?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I doubt the new tornadus will ever be metagame. Maybe for Windfall but then again N can do that. The second attack kind of stinks because you would have to use all 4 of your plasma energies for it to be able to OHKO any pokemon. If I missed out something please point it out thanks.

      Delete
    2. 'OHKO any pokemon'
Sorry I meant EXs. I know it kills Ho-oh and other 160hp EXs with 3 plasma energies but I doubt Ho-oh will see play after plf.

      Delete
  18. I think there's been a miscount in 1.2.6. Darkrai EX/Mewtwo EX. There are only 12 energies, and not 14. Therefore the deck needs 2 more cards :)

  19. Do you think emolga is still viable in this format with a weakness to thundurus or is shaymin BC a better option? Just wondering.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I expect to see more shaymins once plasma blast is out due to the virizon/genesects running around. Emolga will always be nice because free-treat but shaymin/float could be an option. Fiddle with it

And I have told it a several times in my articles as well. Ultra Ball is simply better, BECAUSE you can discard the energy in the early turns.

      Delete
    2. Yes.i did not notice until today sorry :)

      Delete
  21. I was also thinking about Emolga. Does a weakness to Thundurus mean it will be replaced with shaymin BC? Or is a Free Retreat still worth it for him?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Free retreat is the key. RayEels has some serious issues against Plasma anyways, so the Emolga's weakness doesn't matter that much. In the end, you only need one CFF.

      Delete
    2. Ok thanks Esa!

      Delete
    3. Wouldn't the retreat actually help you though? Getting that extra energy in the discard is always helpful (and if skyarrow is out, you're no worse off than you would be if you were using Emolga). It also saves you the headache of more donkable cards.

      Delete
    4. Yeah i guess so. But then emolga can do 20 damage when necassary if maybe u just missed a Ko

      Delete
  22. why only the one virbank in every list. I find without virbank lasers become redundant against decks like blastoise or include keldeo ex with free retreat(near free retreat).

    1. As long as my opponent's play 2 of them, I'm better off with one. It's all about personal preference and what you expect from your opponents. And I expect them to play 2 Virbanks.

  29. Question about the Garchomp/Altaria - is Landorus a good fit in the deck, or does he kind of fall to the wayside?

  33. I know you hate Emboar, but I had big success in my city with Emboar/White Kyurem EX (I won against 2 blastoise decks) I added 1 rayquaza EX with the 4 blend wlfm to quick-attack Black Kyurem EX having attached only 3 energies (2 with ability) in one turn.
I just wanted to share this great deck :)
